The first step into technology can be exciting, challenging, and full of possibilities. For 100 young learners in Kano, that journey has officially begun.
The 100 Young Learners Bootcamp kicked off with an exciting first day, bringing together young people aged 8–15 for a free six-day coding experience designed to introduce them to programming, creativity, and digital technology.
From the very beginning, the energy in the room was clear. Learners were eager to explore, experiment, and discover what they could create with technology.
A First Step into Programming:
During the first day, participants began learning through Scratch and EduBlocks, two platforms that make programming more accessible and engaging for young learners.
Rather than simply learning about technology, the bootcamp gives participants an opportunity to interact with it and begin creating with it.
Through coding activities, the learners are developing important skills such as:
- Creative thinking
- Problem-solving
- Logical thinking
- Confidence
- Digital literacy
These skills go beyond the classroom and can help young people approach challenges with greater curiosity and confidence.
Creating Future Innovators
As technology continues to transform the way we learn, work, communicate, and solve problems, introducing young people to digital skills at an early age can help them become active participants in that transformation.
The goal is not simply to teach children how to code. It is to give them the opportunity to discover that they, too, can become creators, problem-solvers, and innovators.
The Journey Continues:
While the completion of the first batch is a significant milestone, the bootcamp is far from over.
The final batch of 50 learners will begin their training next week, completing the programme's goal of reaching 100 young learners.
This means another group of children and teenagers will have the opportunity to explore programming, strengthen their digital skills, and take their first steps towards becoming future innovators.
The Journey Has Just Begun:
Day One may be over, but there is still much more to come.
Over the remaining days of the bootcamp, the learners will continue exploring programming, developing their ideas, and building their confidence through practical learning.
For many of these young participants, this could be the beginning of a much longer journey into technology.
And as they learn, experiment, and create, we look forward to seeing the ideas that emerge from these young minds.
This is only Day One. The journey to becoming tomorrow's innovators has just begun.
