The journey to becoming a future innovator often begins with something simple: the opportunity to learn.
For 50 young learners in Kano, that opportunity has just marked an important milestone as the first batch of participants in the 100 Young Learners Bootcamp successfully completed their one-week training.
The six-day bootcamp brought together young people between the ages of 8 and 15, giving them an opportunity to explore programming, develop their creativity, and build confidence in using digital technology.
50 Young Learners, Six Days of Discovery:
Throughout the training, participants were introduced to Scratch and EduBlocks programming, two beginner-friendly tools designed to make learning programming engaging and accessible for young learners.
Beyond writing code, the bootcamp encouraged participants to think creatively, solve problems, experiment with ideas, and approach technology with confidence.
For learners at this stage, these experiences can play an important role in shaping how they view technology; not simply as something they consume, but as something they can use to create, build, and innovate.
Building Skills for the Future:
During the first batch, the learners demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment throughout the programme. Their participation highlighted what can happen when young minds are given the right environment, guidance, and tools to explore their potential.
From programming exercises to creative problem-solving activities, each day provided another opportunity for the learners to discover something new.
The Journey Continues:
While the completion of the first batch is a significant milestone, the bootcamp is far from over.
The final batch of 50 learners will begin their training next week, completing the programme's goal of reaching 100 young learners.
This means another group of children and teenagers will have the opportunity to explore programming, strengthen their digital skills, and take their first steps towards becoming future innovators.
